The CW has released the very spoiler-filled official description for Smallville Season 10.

Official description posted behind the cut.

The end of the beginning starts here. Taking flight in its tenth and final season, this modern retelling of a hero’s legendary origins continues to blend realism, action, heart and humor as Clark Kent (Tom Welling) soars toward claiming his birthright.

Clark has emerged from his darkest hour, only to find the path to his destiny blocked by ghosts from the past — shadows in the present tempting Clark toward the darkness at every turn. Despite insurmountable odds, is Clark strong enough to step into the light and claim his rightful place as Earth’s mightiest protector?

As “Smallville’s” epic ninth season came to a close, General Zod (Callum Blue) and his Kryptonian Army declared war on the people of Earth. Clark prevented the deaths of thousands, if not millions of humans by using the Kryptonian Book of Rao to stop the attack. The spiritual tome opened a gateway to another world, one where Clark’s people could exist in peace. One-by-one, every Kryptonian on Earth was propelled across the universe, but as Clark prepared for his “ascension,” Zod refused to leave. Using a blue Kryptonite dagger to make himself human and avoid being sucked into space, Zod remained behind so that he could rule a world without its guardian, Clark Kent. Having no other option to rid the world of Zod’s tyranny, Clark plunged the dagger into his own abdomen, protecting himself from ascension — and exiling Zod in the process. Though victorious, Clark’s win was bittersweet as he plummeted off the building and into the darkness below.

After a fateful kiss, Lois Lane (Erica Durance) realized that the two men she had been torn between all season — Clark Kent and Metropolis’ heroic Blur — were one and the same. Having finally found redemption and a second chance at love, Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack) and Oliver Queen, a.k.a. the Green Arrow (Justin Hartley), were ripped apart. Chloe was forced to painfully listen as the love of her life, Oliver, was abducted by mysterious assailants during his attempt to help Clark defeat Zod’s Army. And Tess Mercer (Cassidy Freeman), heir to the late Lex Luthor empire and double agent for the now-defunct government organization Checkmate, was fatally burned at Zod’s hand in an attempt to right past wrongs. As Tess flatlined in Metropolis General Hospital, she was visited by a shrouded, elderly woman. The granny’s motives…still unknown.

Throughout season nine, Clark, bearing the iconic S-shield of his heritage, struggled to find his place between the human world in which he was raised and the Kryptonian world he was born into. Having made peace with his dual heritage, Clark, in season ten, must now find the courage to step out of the shadows and emerge into the light. Never before has there been such a dangerous time for Clark to step into the public eye and take on the mantle of the inspirational icon he is destined to be. As the tide of sentiment in Metropolis turns against heroes, branding them as unchecked vigilantes, our defender of justice will be called upon to re-define what it really means to be a superhero. Given how dangerously close Clark has skirted to crossing the line in the name of “justice” in the past, will he truly earn the right to be the symbol of good for humanity, or will he prove the naysayers right, that no one individual can be judge, jury and enforcer.

In the midst of this turmoil, a new danger will emerge as a dark force takes on many faces, threatening Clark at every turn. Hawkman (Michael Shanks), Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort), and Jonathan Kent (John Schneider), Clark’s late, adopted father — forever and always Clark’s moral compass, will stand by Clark’s side as he takes his final steps toward accepting his birthright. He will need all the help he can get to fight the impending evil onslaught…the greatest darkness ever unleashed on Earth.

The season ten premiere, “Lazarus,” opens mere seconds after last season’s finale. Clark Kent wakes from his near-death experience, haunted by the ghosts of his past, both friend and foe. Given a new lease on life, Clark must find a way to rid himself of every last temptation, to purge himself of every last shard of doubt in his heart before he can become the beacon of hope the world needs. But a very real threat from Clark’s past has returned to challenge his ascent, causing Clark to question the nature of his crusade.

Lois Lane will face her own crisis of meaning, trying to redefine her place in the world now that she knows Clark’s super secret — but Clark won’t discover that she knows, and that’s the way she wants to keep it. Lois will try her best to keep the mild-mannered reporter at arms’ length in the hopes that a life free of romantic complication will make him a better hero.

Struggling with her own affairs of the heart, Chloe Sullivan will be faced with an impossible question — how much is she truly willing to sacrifice to protect the people she loves? Chloe will take a tumultuous step into danger for the greater good, the hands of Fate, her only guide.

When Chloe vanishes, Oliver Queen will be forced to look long and hard at the circumstances behind it. Blaming himself for her disappearance, Oliver will begin exploring accountability for all his past actions, good and bad — what great lengths will Oliver go to in order to bring his lost love back home?

Having risked her own life in an attempt to become accountable for her own misguided actions, no one is more surprised than Tess Mercer when she wakes, alive and well, in a seemingly abandoned medical facility. But what secrets lie in wait in the recesses of “Cadmus Labs”? And how much is Tess willing to give up to seize her second chance at redemption?

“Smallville” was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (”Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters. Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins, Joe Davola and Tom Welling. The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television. SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

Nothing compares to an Allison Mack fan. The throng of worshippers this 28-year-old actress has amassed over the last nine years includes some of the most loyal, passionate and caring fans I have ever seen. And their love has not gone unnoticed by Allison — in fact, it is their dedication that led her to reprise the role of Chloe Sullivan one last time during the upcoming tenth and final season of “Smallville.”

Allison tells Popwrap: “I didn’t feel comfortable walking away from the show, and my character, without a completion. So I committed to doing five episodes to giving her the ending I think she deserves. I do think there’s a relationship between my character and the people who’ve watched the show for so many years. I want to honor them, her and myself”.

I went to the play with five other Allison fans from basically all over the East Coast, Some were from just outside New York and into the New Jersey area, one from Pennsylvania, and one from the Carolinas. I came up from the DC metro area so we were all over really. It was neat not only to meet other fans but to realize that Allison has so many and from so many varied areas of the country (and I’m sure internationally. I’d love to see her do a play on the West End of London and get love too!)

The play is a series of monologues and vignettes, not unlike The Vagina Monologues, some heartrending where Allison cried and made me tear up, some touching where she was as outstanding as the tony winner in the cast, and some hilarious with pantomimes and motions from Allison that left me rolling. I took notes on most of her big monologues and acts and I can post them here later but I’d rather not spoil anyone going cause some of the surprises and punchlines are too good to miss. I will say she more than held her own with the cast, although to be fair, another sci-fi leading lady, Ms. Kate Mulgrew, was definitely the standout. If you are a fan of BOTH Allison and Kate, and live near NYC, you just have to go!

After the play we booked it out of the theater and stood outside the stage door. We knew it was the stage door because a rather large gentleman was standing in front of it, clearly keeping people out. We had to wait for a while. The exciting news is that they were filming something behind the scenes for their website with the actresses and that @lovelossonstage, their twitter, reported it would be up soon. The less exciting part was the anxious waiting! We met some of the other actresses, including Ms. Mulgrew, and they were nice enough to sign but seemed pretty busy.

Allison was the second to last out of the five to come out. We all literally sing-songed “hi” to her at the same time, or so my friend Mary informed us later. She was a little surprised, you could tell, to see so many of us hanging out beside the stage door. We asked if we could get her signature on our programs and explained that we were fans who had come from all over. She was very nice and started to sign everything. We had one program reserved for a friend from England who had helped a ton with Operation Truth and Justice and Allison had said that the book we created was just amazing! She also commented on how nice it was that the Chloe community all looked out for each other.

We talked about the play and said how solid the cast was and that some of the other actresses were so good too. Allison was so gracious about her costars and said “I know! This is like my master acting class!” She just seemed very excited to be working on the play and learning so much daily about her craft. She asked where we all were from and went wow at the fact Dan had come from the Carolinas and I’d ridden the train 3 hours from the Washington area and joked that I wouldn’t want to ride back all in one day. Then she agreed to take some pictures with all of us as a group. I didn’t include the group pics here if only because some people in our group didn’t want their faces spread all over the internet and, in this day and age, I respect that. However, she was great about posing. Allison wrapped her arm around Mary’s shoulder and grabbed onto my arm as we took the pictures. She’s a very warm, expansive person to meet and really seems to like getting to meet her fans.

Finally, Mary mentioned that she had met Allison back in about 2003 and had given her a book of letters from Chloe fans all around the world. Allison mentioned that she thought she still had that around her home and couldn’t believe it had been ten years of Smallville anymore than we could! After about fifteen minutes, we had to part because she was meeting her parents for dinner (as she had tweeted about from her dressing room). I thought it was extra nice of her to spend time with us since she had an appointment to keep.

It was just a really good day.

I would recommend that if you are going to the play and want something signed to bring your own black sharpie for the programs as the actresses didn’t have their own pens. That’s just a foot note cause one of us came the uber prepared so thanks Kerry!

It’s all good news for Mack — who is currently doing a play in New York — but Smallville viewers are understandably bummed and wondering what’s next for Chloe.

Would you like to talk about them?
JC: Sure. Tell her. Tell her about Frog.
JR: Frog is fifteen minutes long, all shot in one long take. It starts on a bus, and follows a couple talking. It’s an awkward… if I can recap it here, without Justin making fun of me… It’s the last encounter between a couple that broke up quite a while back, and he’s come to get his stuff. It’s an awkward conversation, but it’s really well written. Amazing actors.
JC: There’s Allison Mack from Smallville.
She is awesome.

Frog is a short movie, shot in 2009, unfolding over fifteen minutes in a single shot as two once best friends walk back to the house they once shared. Frog looks at the sharp turns our lives take in their youth, the fragile nature of human dependence and the difficulty in saying goodbye to a person we still have so much of ourselves stored inside.

Starring Allison Mack (Smallville), Chad Krowchuk (RV, Mentors) and Tom Braidwood (The X-Files), Frog will premiere at the 29th Vancouver Film International Film Festival in October 2010.

Chloe isn’t getting an exit storyline. “Allison created this character, brought her to life, and wants to make sure she has a part in the final season. So she’s not really being written off,” says Kelly Souders. After taking some time off early in the season to do a play, “Allison comes back and has a really strong storyline, and I think fans will be very happy with it. They will not have seen the last of Chloe Sullivan.”

The lovely Kathy (a.k.a Kitmerlot1213) was lucky enough to attend Allison’s play “Love, Loss and what I wore” yesterday and has given us permission to post her very charming and slightly fangirly – who can blame her – write-up of her time in NYC.

I am not going to post about my absolutely horrendous trip to NYC, and the equally nerve-wracking trip nack to PA.

Instead, I am going to concentrate on the AM goodness.

This is going to seem damn random, but these are the thoughts flowing through my brain right now:

She looked gorgeous, wearing this rather glamorous, pleated black dress, and right at the end, she was having so much fun dancing to the music playing in the theater, she had to quickly run to follow the other actresses off the stage. And the best part was, she did this terrific laugh while she ran to catch up.

Allsion more then held her own with the four other women on stage. Her presence was just as commanding on the stage as it is on the small screen and her face was just as expressive. She had the same clear speaking voice as she does on SV, and she had moments of being funny, dramatic and heart-breakingly poignant.

After the show, I was able to speak with Allison and I got her autograph! Sadly, I did not take any pics but I am happy to report that AM was just as thoughtful and gracious and kind as we’ve always heard. She has this way of looking you directly in the eye when she’s speaking to you that makes you feel that she really appreciates your kind words to her–I don’t know if that makes any sense, but I could tell that AM was touched by all of the people waiting around for her autograph. One old guy even told her he remembered her from Hiller and Diller and she laughed out loud.

The outfit she wore after the show was rather adorable–it was a light brown halter dress and she had the cutest sandals on with it. I was happy to see no boots. She looks like she’s growing her hair out because she kept swiping at her bangs–even during the play.

My mom, who went with me to the play and who has never seen SV, agreed that AM was excellent.

So, the play was fabulous and AM’s NY theater debut is going swimmingly. I hope this is the beginning of more stage work for her. Up next, the Tony Awards!

We want to thank Kathy for sharing her experiece and would like to encourage everyone who’s going to see Allison in theatre to do the same –
